Drowning

“I like you but I can’t afford you.”

And then she smiled before a laugh

Resting her hand gently on my thigh

Giving it the slightest squeeze

Safely hidden in my pocket

My wedding ring

I love you

You know I do

But you have been so cold

You never seem interested

And she was so sweet

So willing to satisfy

I stood up too fast

Overturning our little boat

Resulting in us both falling in

I felt like I was drowning in her arms

My lungs choking on her perfume

My heart screaming from within
