Room Service

Blurred images slowly coming into focus

as he struggles to pull himself

out of his intoxicated slumber.

The woman next to him,

the stranger in his bed,

naked and moaning softly.

He remembers the hotel lobby and the ballroom.

He remembers big band music and strong drink.

He remembers removing his corduroy sports coat

before embracing her on the dance floor.

Holding her close and moving with the rhythm,

he remembers being lost in the moment.

The outermost edges

of the sliding blackout curtains

are illuminated by the harsh glow

of early morning sunlight.

The world is momentarily motionless.

Timidly, he removes himself from the bed.
